Ecosystem Simulation Modeling for National Parks

This slide illustrates an ecosystem management model for the Canadian National Parks. This GIS based application integrates sophisticated ecosystem simulation modeling with GIS data management and display techniques to provide the end user, an ecosystem researcher, with a point-and-click interface for evaluating potential mangement actions for vegetation and large ungulates. These maps represent a simulation of total green biomass production for a multi-year simulation.

Atmospheric Disperion Modeling for Emergency Response

These slides illustrate an atmospheric dispersion model based application developed for a nuclear facility operated by the U.S. Dept. of Energy. This GIS based application integrates a sophisticated 3-D atmospheric dispersion model, TRAC, with GIS data management and display techniques. The application supports emergency response staff in tracking hazardous materials releases, and calculates plume dispersion, material deposition, health effects, and protective action recommendations.

This slide illustrates the event definition interface for the atmospheric dispersion modeling application. GIS based data libraries are used to aid the user in selecting the facility and explicit location of the spill or release. All spatial data is maintained by the GIS.
This slide illustrates the interface for the chemical database. A comprehensive site specific chemical database is maintained with an interface that allows the user to select the substance that has been released. Physical properties and health effects standards are automatically retrieved as input into the atmospheric dispersion model.
